The business climate is changing. For some time, there has been a growing tension between corporations and a growing severity of social, political, environmental and religious issues that affect the global community. As the divide has grown, the roles, responsibilities and rights of business are the subject of increasing focus and scrutiny. Relationships between business, government and society are becoming more complex. The recent “credit crunch” will also serve to accelerate regulatory intervention. This landscape is fast-evolving, highly contested and to a large measure not understood. The culture of transparency made possible by the internet fuels the publicity around these issues.
In response, “business” can adapt to the changes or risk its relevance. For many organisations, personal beliefs and relationships will become the key points of differentiation in attracting and retaining the next generation as future founders, developers and workers. The process of procurement within supply chains will also become more value oriented.
honor will contribute to the debate by testing the implications of change.
